ONE WEEK TO GO
With just one week left before the Australian release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, I'm starting to get really excited, not just to see the movie, but to see how Marvel has integrated old with new. Pulling together the two teams shouldn't be a strange concept to me, given that everything Marvel comes out with is, well, ludicrous. As it turns out, I'm a little worried they won't be able to make it work, but then again, they brought back Bucky (and thank god for that, Sebastian Stan is too sexy to die).
This is the seventh film in the X-Men franchise, but the first to integrate new cast members with the old. And that's what makes it different. We've seen many film and television franchises return with a new cast, some did well (Star Trek, Hawaii Five-O), while others… not so much (anyone remember Charlie's Angels brief attempt at a TV comeback?). The only show I know of to successfully bring back the old cast AND bring in fresh talent is Dallas, where the oldies are the parents, the newbies, the kids. But it's a different story with X-Men, as the roles have just been given to younger actors. I thought this would make it hard for Marvel to bring back the originals, but as always, they managed to surprise me!
Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, and Patrick Stewart are back in their original roles, will they be just as good, or will they be outdone by the new generation of X-Men? We'll see in a week!
